Brittany, my seven-year-old daughter informed me that part of her tooth
had come out. I checked and, sure enough, a piece had broken off.
Trying to lighten the moment, I told her to wait until daddy came home
from his law office and asked him.
That evening, as my husband came through the door, Brittany rushed up to
him and asked "What do you suppose the tooth fairy will give me for half
a tooth?"
"Nothing," he replied in his most legalistic voice, "She wants the
tooth, the whole tooth, and nothing but the tooth."
