  ------- Forwarded foolishness follows -------

The elderly wife decides to have a holiday without her husband.

Later in the week they speak on the telephone and he tells her that the
cat has died suddenly.

When she returns home, she berates him for the abrupt manner in which he
gave the news of the cat's death.

"What did you want me to say?" he asks.

"Well, you could have broken the news to me more gently," the wife
replies. "When we first spoke, you could have told me that the cat had
climbed to the top of the big tree out front. Then on the second day
you could have told me that the cat was stuck up there. On the third
day you could have said that the cat had fallen out of the tree.
Finally you could have told me on the fourth day that the cat had died
from his injuries. Then the shock of the cat's death would not have
been so great."

Some months later the wife again went away on holiday without her
husband.

She telephoned and, after the usual courtesies, he said "Oh, by the way,
your mother has climbed the tree."
